Sikhumbuzo Moyo in Nkankezi, Insiza
ZANU-PF supporters in Insiza North Constituency have been urged to put the party first ahead of individual allegiance as the 14 June by-election to elect a National Assembly representative draws closer.
The call was made by Zanu-PF Provincial Vice-Chairperson for Matabeleland South, Cde Albert Nguluvhe, who is also the Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, as he addressed scores of party supporters yesterday at a Ward 17 star rally meant to drum up support for the ruling party’s candidate, Cde Delani Moyo.
Cde Moyo will compete against Mr Thabani Mlotshwa of Zapu, Mr Mbongeni Moyo of the Zimbabwe National Revival Party as well as an independent candidate, Mr Lesley Dube.
“The party is above Government and individual aspirations. Zanu-PF comes first, not an individual, so please forget about whoever you were supporting in the primary election, it’s now Zanu-PF which is into battle, not Cde Delani Moyo,” said Cde Nguluvhe to wild cheers from the crowd that included the party’s two losing candidates in the primary elections, Dr Qhubani Moyo and Cde Nkosilomusa Moses Langa.
Cde Nguluvhe said the by-elections were no longer about an individual but were about the brand Zanu-PF.
“There is no need to vote for anyone else on 14 June because they won’t change anything in Parliament as Zanu-PF is the majority party,” said Cde Nguluvhe.
The seat became vacant following the death of Cde Farai Taruvinga of Zanu-PF in March after a long battle with cancer.
In an interview, Cde Delani Moyo pledged to uphold and further President Mnangagwa’s development philosophy of
“leaving no one and no place behind”, to ensure fulfilment of Vision 2030 of an upper-middle-income economy.
Cde Moyo said as an Insiza child, he understood the developmental needs of the area as he is already actively involved in community development initiatives.
“Economic empowerment is vital for our community’s growth. We need to create an environment where entrepreneurs can thrive, and jobs can be created for our young people and women,” he said.
“We must invest in our youth by providing quality education and vocational training that equips them for the future.
The philosophy of leaving no one behind resonates deeply with me.
“I am dedicated to ensuring that every member of our community has access to opportunities and resources that will improve their lives,” said Cde Moyo.
He further expressed his intent to engage with various stakeholders, including local leaders and community members, to identify and address their specific needs.
“I believe in participatory governance, where the voices of the people are heard and considered in decision-making processes. Together, we can build a brighter future for our community, ensuring that no one is left behind when it comes to development,” said Cde Moyo.
“I also know there are issues such as failing to access safe and clean water so I will ensure more boreholes are drilled in the constituency and that they are solarised.
“As someone who is already staying in Insiza, I believe I know most of the needs of this community.”
