ZANU PF Harare Province is set to conduct inter-district meetings throughout the region to explain the Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3 to the public, in alignment with Resolution Number 1 made at the party conferences in Bulawayo and Mutare.

The ruling party’s affiliate organisations have already reaffirmed their readiness, commitment and support for the implementation of this amendment.

During the Harare Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting yesterday, Zanu PF Harare provincial chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa said the amendment is a fulfilment of Resolution Number 1, endorsed at previous party conferences.

“We had a very exciting Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting, with the main agenda being the arrangement of inter-district meetings throughout Harare Province to explain the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3.

“We will reach out to the people who are expecting the fulfillment of Resolution Number 1,” he said.

Cde Masimirembwa said the majority of people in the country are in favour of Resolution Number 1, which aims to ensure President Mnangagwa remains in office beyond 2028 to realise Vision 2030.

“We are returning to the people to announce that your wishes have been acknowledged: the Bill is now here, but you hold the final say,” he said.

“As Parliament conducts public hearings and consultations, it is essential that you attend in large numbers.

“Support the amendment, support the Bill, and support President Mnangagwa to remain in office beyond 2028, up to 2030,” he added.

The amendment seeks to establish a seven-year electoral cycle to eliminate toxic politics that hinders development.

“We are particularly interested in the seven-year period to remove toxic politics that exists within our electoral cycle.

“Some individuals are already campaigning while sitting parliamentarians are still there, potentially disturbing current MPs.

“A longer electoral cycle can benefit national development by allowing the President to attain Vision 2030. Progress should be our focus moving forward,” he said.

Cde Masimirembwa highlighted that the amendment will be crucial in realising Vision 2030, the national aspiration of establishing an upper-middle-income economy.

The party leadership also participated in a national address by senior leaders on the matter.

Party Secretary for Legal Affairs, Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi, unpacked the contents of the Bill during a nationwide virtual address aimed at sensitising party leadership about the amendment.
