The Zanu PF Harare Women’s League yesterday launched an initiative to combat the sale of illicit drugs near schools.

This comes after reports of vendors disguising drug sales as food item sales near learning institutions.

The Women’s League engaged vendors in Borrowdale, near St John’s Educational Trust, and intends to partner with the Zimbabwe Republic Police and Harare City Council to remove vendors from school areas.

Cde Loice Magweba, Zanu PF Harare Provincial Secretary for Education, Research, and Ideology in the Women’s League said, “The issue of drug and substance abuse is now a cancer in our country, and this initiative aims to protect our children.”

The Government is intensifying efforts to combat drug and substance abuse through strategic initiatives, including a national committee and support centres.

Cde Magweba said the initiative is noble and highlighted its goal to safeguard children from drug and substance abuse.

The league’s activities reflect a commitment to fostering a safe, drug-free learning environment for all students.
