ZANU-PF has successfully carried out the identification, exhumation and reburial of liberation fighters, restoring their dignity in accordance with ancestral requests.
According to the Central Committee report, Zanu-PF Secretary for Gender and Culture Cde Tendi Mukusha highlighted that, for the period under review, a total of 59 bodies were identified and 46 were exhumed and reburied in various parts of the country.
The remainder awaits exhumation and reburial.
“The Fallen Heroes Trust, which is an arm of the Department of Gender and Culture, successfully conducted identification, exhumations and reburials, restoring dignity to liberation fighters in line with ancestral requests,” said Cde Mkusha.
She noted that they identified a grave with approximately 11 bodies on the riverbank at Chimoio Shrine.
The grave, she said, needs immediate attention for exhumation and reburial before the rainy season.
However, Cde Mkusha said the Trust struggles to carry out these activities in the absence of proper funding.
She noted that cultural ceremonies are necessary to appease the ancestors and ensure national harmony.
Cde Mkusha said the department has created a comprehensive database of sacred places, which is being compiled and submitted quarterly to the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe.
This initiative, she said, ensures the protection of spiritual sanctity and cultural continuity, reinforcing the safeguarding of Zimbabwe’s heritage landscapes for present and future generations
