Zanu PF Mash West wants President’s term extended

THE ZANU PF Mashonaland West Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) yesterday reiterated calls for the immediate implementation of Resolution Number 1 to extend President Mnangagwa’s tenure as ZANU PF First Secretary and the country’s President until 2030.

The provincial and district leadership, including Politburo and Central Committee members, unanimously called for the extension of President Mnangagwa’s term of office to enable the full implementation of ongoing projects.

With a stellar catalogue of socio-economic transformation projects already completed and ongoing, President Mnangagwa has presided over an era of rapid development, hence the efforts by party members to exhort him to continue until 2030.

President Mnangagwa, however, has already indicated that he will not continue beyond 2028.

ZANU PF members passed Resolution Number 1 at the 2024 National People’s Conference in Bulawayo.

Politburo member Ziyambi Ziyambi, who is also the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, said, in coming up with the resolution, the province had followed provisions of the ZANU PF constitution.

“Similarly, nomination of a Presidential candidate starts at the district level, goes to the inter-district meetings, the PCC and then the Provincial Inter-district meeting,” said Cde Ziyambi.

“Our ZANU PF constitution says that the provinces nominate and vote for a candidate, not two people.

‘‘The process we have today, where we said we want the law to be amended to extend the President’s tenure until 2030, is allowed by our constitution.”

Cde Ziyambi said any claims that the resolution was made by a few people are malicious and untrue, as an inclusive process provided for by the constitution was followed.

District chairpersons, representatives of the Central Committee, war veterans and DCC chairpersons reported to the provincial inter-district meeting the resolution formulation process.

ZANU PF Mashonaland West province chairperson Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka read the consolidated resolutions from the seven administrative districts, saying President Mnangagwa needs to see through his vision.

“Mashonaland West province has unanimously resolved and calls for the immediate implementation of constitutional amendments of our resolution to endorse and affirm His Excellency, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, as the First Secretary of ZANU PF and President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, to continue serving in both capacities until the year 2030,” reads the resolution.

“This will provide continuity and stability, enabling him to complete key projects and initiatives in line with Vision 2030.”

The province also called for the development of a framework that enforces party supremacy over Government structures to ensure the party’s policies and decisions are implemented effectively.

All members of the PCC and district leadership attended the meeting, along with Politburo member Dr Douglas Mombeshora, who is also Health and Child Care Minister; Central Committee members and Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo.
