Zanu PF heavyweights in Masvingo headlined a cast of ruling party officials who made it to the Senate and the Provincial Council after the revolutionary party maintained its dominance in the province’s in last week’s harmonised elections.
The ruling party won 23 of the 25 National Assembly seats that were up for grabs in the harmonised polls with the opposition CCC winning only two seats, Masvingo Urban and Chiredzi Central constituencies.
The vote difference was high enough to ensure the six Senate seats in the province, and the six seats allocated by proportional representation to women were each split 4-2 between Zanu PF and the CCC.
The single special youth MP came from Zanu PF, as it dominated the popular provincial vote, giving the party five extra MPs in the National Assembly to the 23 directly elected.
ZEC has now released a list of names of candidates who made it to the Senate, Provincial Council, Women and Youth quotas that is dominated by Zanu PF.
In the Senate, Zanu PF Secretary for Security in the Politburo, Cde Lovemore Matuke, leads three other ruling party candidates who made it into the Upper House out of six slots for the province.
A committee member in the Politburo Cde Ottilia Maluleke also made it into the Senate together with Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chair Cde Robson Mavhenyengwa and Cde Anna Rungani.
Mrs Maggie Chakabuda and Mr Godfrey Madzikanda both of CCC complete the candidates who made it into the Senate in Masvingo.
Under the women’s quota, former Zanu PF Gutu North parliamentarian Cde Yeukai Simbanegavi sailed through together with the ruling party Masvingo provincial chairperson Cde Alginia Samson, Zanu PF Youth.
League National Executive member Cde Auxcillia Dhanzi and Cde Faith Makaza.
Mrs Machirairwa Mugidho and Mrs Tendeukai Matara of CCC party join them in Parliament.
Cde Naledi Maunganidze made it into Parliament from Masvingo under the Youth quota.
In the Provincial Council, Zanu PF is again the dominant player with seven members while the opposition CCC has three members.
Again the split is based on the percentage vote for each party in the constituency elections.
Former Zanu PF Chivi Central legislator Cde Ephraim Gwanongodza, former Zanu PF Gutu East MP Cde Berta Chikwama, ruling party Masvingo provincial vice chair Cde Trust Mugabe, Zanu PF Masvingo provincial secretary for Commissariat Cde Brian Munyoro, Cdes Sarah Mandiki, Mavis Demba and Vairet Munodzana make up the list of ruling party candidates elected into the provincial council.
Ms Vimbai Mavherudze and Ms Elizabeth Mahachi and Mr Tinofirei Wadzai of CCC party complete the provincial council line up from Masvingo province.
