ZANU PF National Political Commissar Cde Munyaradzi Machacha yesterday paid a courtesy call on People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola secretary-general Cde Paulo Pombolo at the party’s headquarters in Luanda, Angola, where he conveyed condolences following the death of veteran Angolan diplomat and statesman Ambassador Manuel Domingos Augusto.

Cde Machacha delivered a message of condolence from President Mnangagwa, who is also ZANU PF First Secretary, as well as from the party’s leadership and membership and the people of Zimbabwe.

The visit underscored the longstanding ties between Zimbabwe and Angola, as well as the enduring relationship between ZANU PF and the MPLA, which were forged during the liberation struggles and have continued to grow over the years. Cde Machacha paid tribute to the late Ambassador Augusto, describing him as a distinguished statesman whose contribution to diplomacy, regional co-operation and international relations earned him widespread respect across Africa and beyond.

He acknowledged the Ambassador’s role in strengthening the historic bonds of friendship, solidarity and co-operation between Zimbabwe and Angola, as well as between ZANU PF and the MPLA.

The two leaders also reviewed the state of relations between the sister liberation movements and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening co-operation.

They agreed on the importance of deepening collaboration between ZANU PF and the MPLA, particularly through the promotion of stronger economic partnerships capable of delivering tangible benefits to the people of both countries.

The discussions highlighted the need to leverage party-to-party relations to stimulate broader country-to-country economic cooperation, investment and trade between Zimbabwe and Angola.

Both sides expressed confidence that the strong political ties between the two liberation movements would continue to provide a solid foundation for enhanced bilateral engagement in various sectors.

Following the meeting, Cde Machacha signed the book of condolences on behalf of ZANU PF and the people of Zimbabwe, honouring the life, service and legacy of Ambassador Augusto.

The visit reflected the close relations that continue to exist between Zimbabwe and Angola and reaffirmed the commitment of both parties to advancing co-operation in pursuit of shared development and prosperity.
