Zanu-PF has the potential to reclaim all urban constituencies lost to the MDC-T in previous elections as evidenced by victories in by-elections held since the July 31 2013 elections, Chitungwiza town clerk Mr George Makunde, has said.
Addressing councillors after the swearing in of ward 25 councillor Cde Simpison Mhike in Chitungwiza on Tuesday, Mr Makunde said the win by Cde Mhike was a reflection of the confidence people had in Zanu-PF.
Cde Mhike garnered 993 votes against Mr Kenneth Chinyaure (MDC-T)’s 145 in a by-election held last month.
“We are happy that we have sworn in a Zanu-PF councillor as the winner of the by-election.
“Contrary to previous statements that Zanu-PF had lost ground in towns, this indicates otherwise,” said Mr Makunde.
Speaking after being sworn in, Cde Mhike pledged to serve the people.
“I am declaring today that l will represent my ward at all levels by improving service delivery. As we speak right now, the ward is in the intensive care”, he said.
“We want to rebrand the community irrespective of party affiliation. Because of the MDC, there was chaos and maladministration of service delivery. We must practice what we promised the people under Zim-Asset.”
