MEMBERS of the Zanu-PF Politburo gathered today at the party headquarters in Harare to sign an Anti-Sanctions Petition, a significant act leading up to the Anti-Sanctions Commemorations scheduled for October 25 in Bulawayo.
This initiative reflects Zimbabwe’s ongoing call for the unconditional removal of sanctions that have been imposed on the country.

During the signing ceremony, Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, and Politburo member Ziyambi Ziyambi emphasised the importance of the petition.
“You have noticed I have just signed the Anti-Sanctions petition; I subscribe to this,” he said. He referenced a report by UN Special Rapporteur Alena Douhan, which concluded that sanctions constitute a violation of human rights.
Ziyambi questioned the rationale behind the ongoing sanctions, particularly from the United States, a member of the United Nations, which has recognised the legality issues surrounding these measures.

“We wonder why the United States, being a member of the United Nations, still persists with the sanctions when it has been established by the United Nations that they are illegal and violate the rights of our people. Therefore, we are calling upon the United States to remove the sanctions so that we can become part of the global village on an equal footing with everyone else,” he said.
The upcoming commemorations in Bulawayo on 25 August are expected to unite various stakeholders in the ongoing campaign against sanctions, drawing attention to their detrimental effects on Zimbabwe’s socio-economic landscape. As the country prepares for this significant event, the Zanu-PF party continues to rally support for the removal of sanctions, framing it as a crucial step towards national recovery and global integration.
