The move is meant to ensure that the three parliamentary seats and one senatorial seat that were won by MDC-T in the last polls revert to Zanu-PF.
Bikita is the only district in Masvingo Province where Zanu-PF lost both the three parliamentary seats and the senate seat to MDC-T in 2008.
Addressing party leaders and supporters at Baradzanwa Business Centre in Bikita South on Wednesday, Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial chairman Cde Lovemore Matuke said his party’s main priority was to reverse the setback of 2008 when the party fared badly.
He challenged supporters to rally behind Zanu-PF and President Mugabe in the next elections.
“From today (Wednesday) onwards the main priority of all Zanu-PF supporters here in Bikita is to start working so that we reclaim the seats that were lost to the MDC. I think our task is more easier because most of you now know that the party stands for nothing following their stint in Government. They failed to make any difference save to indulge in corruption and self-enrichment.”
He, however, reminded the supporters to always uphold a culture of non-violence saying Zanu-PF should never use coercion to win support.
“Let us welcome come back those who want to rejoin the party. In our campaigns, let’s try to win support peacefully. We do not want violence and President Mugabe has been consistently singing the gospel of non-violence. So, let us take that message to the communities where we live,’’ he added.
Cde Matuke told the supporters in Bikita of the impending visit to the district by members of the management committee tasked with spearheading campaigns for Zanu-PF in the district.
The rally was attended by members of the Zanu-PF Bikita district leadership among them Central Committee member Retired Colonel Claudious Makova, Dr Munyaradzi Kereke, and Zanu-PF provincial Women’s League chairperson Cde Shylet Uyoyo.
