Zanu-PF ready to roll: Team

Cde Khaya Moyo, who leads the probe team set up by the Politburo to check on the state of the party’s preparedness in all the provinces ahead of the polls, said Zanu-PF was in good shape to win the elections.

The comments come in the wake of the completion of the party’s election manifesto and guidelines for the conduct of primary elections expected to be released at a crunch Politburo meeting tomorrow.

Speaking to the media after a six-hour closed-door meeting with Mashonaland Central party structures in Bindura yesterday, the team’s fifth port of call after Bulawayo, Manicaland, Harare and Masvingo, Cde Khaya Moyo said the party was raring to go.

“We are going back very confident that we are poised for victory in this province,” he said.
“We also have no doubt that where we came from, we are also poised for victory again.
“We are convinced that from the five provinces we have toured so far, the party is in a state of preparedness to romp to victory, come elections.

“We going back very happy to report to the President and the Politburo that things are most encouraging that there is no doubt our President will win without any question and our party which he leads because we believe the victory of our party is the victory of our people.”

Cde Khaya Moyo hailed the provincial leadership for working tirelessly to strengthen the party in the province, adding that this was evidenced by the unity of purpose among officials at yesterday’s meeting.

He said officials in the province frankly expressed concerns facing the party in Mashonaland Central adding that the same officials proffered solutions.

Other members of the probe team who attended yesterday’s meeting were Secretary for Administration Cde Didymus Mutasa and National Political Commissar Cde Webster Shamu while national Secretary for Security Cde Sydney Sekeramayi could not make it.

In his opening remarks, provincial chairperson Cde Dickson Mafios said the party structures were in good shape, but bemoaned electioneering that he said some officials were already engaged in despite the fact that the party leadership was yet to spell out rules and regulations guiding primary elections.

“There are some people who are already electioneering. We are surprised some people are going ahead to do that claiming they have the mandate of the leadership.

“Some of these people who are not even in the party structures are using money to lure people,” said Cde Mafios.

Senior officials from the province who attended the meeting include Secretary for Transport and Welfare Cde Nicholas Goche, who is also Transport, Communication and Infrastructure Development Minister, and Secretary for Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Cde Saviour Kasukuwere, who is also the Minister of Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment.

Other Politburo members present were deputy secretary for education and Deputy Minister for Education, Sport, Arts and Culture Cde Lazarus Dokora and committee member Cde Alice Chimbudzi.
The next assignment for the team is Mashonaland West on Thursday.

In an interview yesterday, provincial chairman Cde John Mafa confirmed that the team would hold a series of meetings with provincial structures.

“The team is coming to our province and basically information at hand shows that they want to assess the state of the party’s preparedness ahead of elections this year,” he said.

He said the party’s programmes in the province were going smoothly as efforts were being made to consolidate the 16 seats it won in the 2008 harmonised elections.

Speculation is rife that the team will also deal with the issue of aspiring candidates who were coming back after several years of suspension.

Topping the list is aspiring Chinhoyi urban legislator Dr Philip Chiyangwa who has hit the ground running with various programmes to woo voters and veteran journalist and former Makonde legislator Kindness Paradza among others.

The team will meet central committee and Politburo members in the province, the provincial co-ordinating committee and war veterans among other interest groups.
