ZANU PF members, who previously left the ruling party for opposition formations and have since returned and commonly referred to as returnees, have praised the party’s inclusive approach, saying it has enabled them to hold influential positions and actively participate in national development.
Among the returnees is ZANU PF candidate for the Chegutu Ward 1 by-election scheduled for February 21, Cde Gift Konjana, who said the party’s willingness to accommodate former members demonstrated that it practises what it preaches on unity and inclusivity.
Cde Konjana previously contested as a Member of Parliament candidate for Chegutu West under the MDC-Alliance in 2018 and CCC in the 2023 harmonised elections.
Following his defeat in the 2023 polls, he rejoined ZANU PF and is now contesting the Ward 1 by-election, which was necessitated by the death of CCC councillor Kempton Mukombwa in December last year after a mine shaft collapse at Bluerock Mine.
Speaking at Kaguvi Shopping Centre on Sunday during the launch of his election campaign, Cde Konjana said his return to ZANU-PF was a deliberate decision driven by the party’s development-oriented agenda.
He said being entrusted with the Chegutu Ward 1 candidature had strengthened his resolve to address service delivery challenges, including water shortages and sewage problems.
