CHINHOYI is gearing up to host the 23rd Zanu PF National People’s Conference, with party Secretary-General Advocate Jacob Mudenda urging delegates to move beyond resolutions to tangible development outcomes.
The conference will be held in Chinhoyi from October 12 to 17 under the theme, “From resolutions to results: Consolidating economic development and deepening empowerment towards Vision 2030”.
Adv Mudenda said the theme should shape deliberations towards practical programmes that improve people’s lives.
He expressed satisfaction with preparations following a tour of Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT), the main conference venue.
However, he raised concern over some works that were behind schedule. He was assured that all infrastructure projects—including the sprucing up of Chinhoyi—would be completed by October 6.
The projects are expected to leave a lasting legacy for residents of Chinhoyi and Mashonaland West beyond the conference.
Accompanied by Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial chairperson Senator Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo, and other party and Government officials, Adv Mudenda said the gathering would also provide an opportunity for the party to review progress on resolutions adopted at previous conferences before coming up with new ones.
“This is the ruling party because it is the party that meets annually, and one of the most important outcomes is the question of resolutions,” he said.
Adv Mudenda said the annual review of prior resolutions was key to keeping the party focused on its objectives and on the attainment of Vision 2030 through the National Development Strategy 2.
“So, it is critical therefore that we review each year what we resolved at the previous conference and adopt the new resolutions that will move the party towards implementation—first of its objectives and secondly to ensure there is sustenance in meeting our agenda for Vision 2030,” he said.
During the tour, he inspected conference facilities including tents, ablution facilities, upgraded dormitories and the expanded CUT water treatment plant.
CUT director of works and estates Engineer Tsitsi Hweju said the upgraded plant would have capacity to treat 800 000 litres of water a day, feeding into the university’s existing reticulation system.
“We will store water in a one-million-litre reservoir. Water will be reticulated into a 500 000-litre tank which will then distribute by gravity into the existing network,” Eng Hweju said, adding that the plant’s capacity is sufficient for current and mid-term needs.
Senator Mliswa-Chikoka said the province was satisfied with the scale and quality of the projects undertaken ahead of the conference, saying the impact would be felt by residents for a long time.
“The legacy will impact the residents for a long time to come,” she said.
