THE ruling Zanu-PF party has moved a step further in preparing for the forthcoming harmonised elections with the majority of provinces set to finalise their provincial council elections today.

Bulawayo Province held its Provincial Council Elections yesterday at Davies Hall where 10 candidates were nominated. Cdes Mabutho Moyo, Mnothisi Nsingo, Gordon Ndlovu, Mlungisi Moyo and Thabo Thwala are the male candidates that were elected while Cdes Molina Dube, Abby Dube, Thenjiwe Nleya, Manala Montsi and Kundai Nyika were elected as the female candidates who will represent Zanu PF in Bulawayo Province.

Last Wednesday, Zanu PF National Commissar Cde Mike Bimha called on all provinces to convene DCC meetings between 15 and 16 June 2023 for the purpose of electing members who will represent the party in provincial councils. Each province was required to elect 10 candidates, five females and five males. Each DCC was directed to select two candidates, one female and one male. The selection was first by consensus and or by election.

“After the selection of the two candidates by the DCCs, provinces should convene PCC meetings between 17 and 18 June 2023. The purpose of this meeting is to come up with a final list of the required ten candidates, five female and five male drawn from the lists submitted by the DCCs. The meeting will be attended by the DCC executives and all their DCC ex-officio members,” said Cde Bimha in the circular.

Speaking after the PCC meeting held at Davies Hall yesterday, Bulawayo provincial chairperson Cde Jabulani Sibanda said the election process went well.

“The process went well and we have implored the elected candidates to perform as expected. You will know that as a party we have democratic centralism, the ability to elect amongst ourselves before we go to general elections. The smooth running of these internal elections means we are well prepared for the harmonised elections,” said Cde Sibanda.

Other provinces including Midlands, Matabeleland North and South are set to convene today to elect their respective candidates. Matabeleland North provincial chairperson Cde Richard Moyo confirmed the meeting saying they will elect their candidates.

“We are going to convene our PCC tomorrow (today) where we will elect our provincial council candidate,” said Cde Moyo.
