ZANU-PF national political commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere has suspended all meetings and programmes in the Midlands province citing unprecedented levels of indiscipline by party members.
Confirming the move last night, Cde Kasukuwere said: “Yes, the party has suspended all meetings and programmes in the province.”
Cde Kasukuwere gave a stern warning to divisive elements creating parallel structures in the province saying those found in the wrong will be dealt with accordingly.
In a letter addressed to Zanu-PF secretary for education in the Politburo Cde Joram Gumbo, and copied to secretary for administration Cde Ignatius Chombo and the acting Midlands provincial chairperson, Cde Tapiwanashe Matangaidze and dated March 22, Cde Kasukuwere said meetings will only commence after order has been restored in the province.
He said investigations into the alleged offences will be held after the Easter holidays.
“I’ve learnt with concern the heightening level of indiscipline, characterised by the creation of parallel structures currently taking place in the Midlands Province.
“In an effort to restore order, I’m forced to suspend all party meetings and programmes in the Midlands Province until my visit and assessment of the prevailing situation to be scheduled soon after the Easter Holiday,” said Cde Kasukuwere.
Cde Matangaidze confirmed receipt of the letter, adding that as the acting provincial chairperson, he stood guided by the party decisions.
“Yes, we received the letter from Cde Kasukuwere and we stand guided by it. It’s rather unfortunate that while a directive has come, we understand that some members of the Provincial Coordinating Committee held meetings in Gokwe North and South today. We understand that they want to hold another meeting in Kwekwe tomorrow morning in complete defiance of the directive from the Political Commissar,” he said.
The provincial spokesperson Cde Cornelius Mupereri who was suspended by the Cde Matangaidze executive on Friday last week also confirmed hearing about the suspension of the party programme.
“We just heard about the suspension, we haven’t seen the letter. In the afternoon, the police tried to stop our meetings in Gokwe North and South saying they had received a call from Cde Kasukuwere banning our outreach. We, however, went ahead with the meetings and tomorrow, we are having another outreach in Kwekwe,” he said.
Last week Friday, while Cde Matangaidze was chairing a PCC meeting on development at Senga training centre in Gweru, other executive members held a parallel meeting in Zvishavane and Mberengwa.
