ZANU-PF yesterday said it would commence disciplinary procedures against perpetrators of political violence after the conclusion of the Women’s Conference which starts today.
The party’s secretary for information and publicity Cde Rugare Gumbo said the proceedings would include cases involving Midlands Province members.
Cde Gumbo said this in the wake of allegations that Kwekwe Central legislator Cde Masango Matambanadzo allegedly teamed up with his bodyguard to assault Zanu-PF Kushinga District secretary for security Cde Sabikwa Marko Msipa.
The latest allegations against the MP come a month after he allegedly exchanged blows with Gokwe-Kana legislator Cde Owen Ncube at Amaveni Shopping Centre over allegations of instructing youths to perform acts of arson.
“I have heard about the incident but not as put in the media. I understand Cde Msipa went to Cde Matambanadzo’s office and was involved in a fight with his bodyguard.
“We are, however, yet to receive a full report on the matter,” said Cde Gumbo.
“We take grave concern when party members engage in violence against each other. We will look into some of these disciplinary cases coming from the Midlands and involving violence.”
Cde Gumbo said the party was presently focused on the Women’s conference.
“We do not want to lose focus on the Women’s League conference. After the conference we will then visit this issue because there are procedures to be followed in handling these matters at a disciplinary level,” he said.
Cde Msipa told Chronicle that on Monday that Cde Matambanadzo called him to his office where he accused the district party official of sabotaging him. The legislator also allegedly asked why Msipa was supporting Zanu-PF secretary for legal affairs Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa when it was clear that he was no longer powerful.
He further alleged that Cde Matambanadzo, with the assistance of his bodyguard, started assaulting him with fists, kicking and hitting him against the wall resulting in the district party official sustaining swollen eyes, head injuries and a cut above his right eye.
Cde Msipa was by Tuesday still admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital.
Cde Matambanadzo gave a different account of events that led to Cde Msipa’s assault.
He denied assaulting the fellow party member alleging that the incident was connected to his recent scuffle with Cde Ncube.
Cde Matambanadzo said Cde Msipa was assaulted by his body guard after he stormed into the lawmaker’s offices with an intention to hit his aide.
The legislator said his aide had told him that Cde Msipa and a gang of youths were terrorising him when Cde Matambanadzo was attending Parliament in Harare.
