ZANU PF’S United Kingdom District has thrown its weight behind Constitutional Amendment No 3 Bill, saying it is the mandate of every party member to promote and campaign for resolutions that further national development.
Cde Xavier Zavare, the Zanu PF UK District chairman, said party structures should be educated about the proposed amendments, using national languages, to address any technicalities that may inhibit a full understanding of the importance of the Constitutional Amendment No 3 Bill.
He said the district supported the constitutional proposals following resolutions made at the 22nd Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference in October last year in Mutare.
“The Amendment Bill is coming on the back of resolutions passed at the conference, particularly Resolution Number One to enable President Mnangagwa to be in office up to 2030. We understand where the amendment is coming from, and we stand guided by that.
“So for us as Zanu PF UK District, we were active participants in the conference, including passing or making recommendations, and participating in drafting resolutions. So this is a position we are active participants in,” Cde Zavare said.
Cde Zavare said it was now incumbent on ZANU PF members, officials, and the Government to ensure that all Zimbabweans, both within and outside the borders, are reached and communicated with regarding all Government and party programmes.
He said under the Government’s policy of “leaving no one and no place behind”, it was important for people to be educated about the ongoing processes using local languages to enhance their understanding.
“Our Constitution recognises at least 16 languages, and those languages are recognised for a reason. It means that the party and the Government have to ensure that people are reached out to in the language that they understand.
“Sometimes the debates and discussions can be very technical to the ordinary people, hence it is best to reach out to them in a language that they understand, explaining things in the simplest of language.”
Constitutional Amendment No 3 Bill seeks to align election cycles with the country’s developmental goals and trajectory and extend the presidential term from five to seven years to ensure continuity in policy formulation and national development.
