THE newly-elected legislator for Cowdray Park, Cde Arthur Mujeyi has attributed his victory to the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Professor Mthuli Ncube’s developmental projects, which he said impressed the voters.

The ruling Zanu-PF party romped to victory when it won six out of eight National Assembly seats in Bulawayo, Binga, Lupane and Beitbridge in the by-elections held on December 9. In Cowdray Park, Cde Mujeyi of Zanu-PF won the seat after he got 1 765 votes while CCC candidate Mr Vusumuzi Chirwa obtained 1 560 votes.

Minister Ncube lost the seat to Citizens’ Coalition for Change candidate Pashor Raphael Sibanda in the August 23 harmonised elections only for the ruling party to snatch the constituency from the opposition in by-elections that were necessitated by the recall of some CCC members by the interim secretary-general Mr Sengezo Tshabangu.

In the run-up to the harmonised elections in August, Minister Ncube had embarked on various development projects such as the rehabilitation of roads in the area and the construction and equipping of Cowdray Park Health Centre.

The health centre was the second to be completed in an initiative by the Second Republic, under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, to build 30 22-bed clinics and five 60-bed district hospitals across the country over the next three years.

Prof Ncube also spearheaded the drilling of multiple boreholes in the area and sponsored nurse aid courses for youths in Cowdray Park as well as installing free internet services in various places around the vast constituency, paying school fees for underprivileged children as well as equipping schools in the area with computers.

On Saturday, Minister Ncube visited Cowdray Park where he assured the residents that incomplete projects will not be abandoned as the ruling party continues to develop the area into a smart city.

Cde Mujeyi told a crowd of Zanu-PF supporters gathered at a local church that although the seat fell into the hands of the opposition in the August elections, the electorate soon realised that CCC sold them a dummy and voted for the ruling party in the by-elections earlier this month.

“I stand here in front of you as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Cowdray Park and our victory as Zanu-PF would not have been possible without the development projects that were spearheaded by Minister Ncube. During the campaign period leading up to the by-elections, we did door-to- door campaigns riding on the successful projects that the Honourable Minister started and completed.

“Minister Ncube promised the residents of Cowdray Park that he is a servant of the people and today (Saturday) he has taken time from his busy schedule to come back and reassure us that he is still with us.

“I will continue with the good work that was started by the minister and make sure that Cowdray Park grows into a smart city that caters for the needs of all its residents,” said Cde Mujeyi.

Minister Ncube donated three sets of portable recording equipment to budding artistes from the constituency, including one to two young sisters who will represent the country in a singing competition in the United States in July next year.

“I have already sourced more equipment for a bigger studio that will be set up here in Cowdray Park. The work that we started is still on-going and I’m here today to reassure you that Zanu-PF is a party that fulfils its promises and that we will continue working hard for the development of this constituency.

“Cde Mujeyi is a hard working party cadre who will represent the residents of Cowdray Park well in Parliament and bring more developmental projects,” said Prof Ncube.
