THE ZANU PF Women’s League has handed over food hampers to 40 children’s homes across Zimbabwe to support underprivileged communities in line with the President’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.

The league selected four children’s homes in each of the country’s ten provinces to receive essential commodities, including rice, sugar, and cooking oil.

In Harare, the initial distribution covered several institutions, including the Matthew Rusike Children’s Home, Chinyaradzo Children’s Home, and the Tamuka Foundation.

ZANU PF Secretary for the Women’s League Cde Mabel Chinomona challenged citizens to cultivate a culture of philanthropy ahead of the holidays, revealing that the grain consignment had been secured through international diplomatic channels.

“As we are approaching the festive season, we should have a culture of giving back to the underprivileged society,” Cde Chinomona said. “We have sourced rice from China to give back to the vulnerable society in Zimbabwe. I sourced the rice from our Chinese friends.”

Cde Chinomona commended the long-standing bilateral relationship between Zimbabwe and China, noting that the alliance dates back to the days of the liberation struggle.

“Today, we are handing over bags of rice donated by our Chinese friends for distribution,” she added.

“Long live our friendship between Zimbabwe and China. Long live President Mnangagwa. Long live ZANU PF. Long live Chinese President Xi Jinping. When I approached them for food to give to the underprivileged communities, they showed us that a friend in need is a friend indeed. The Chinese people say, ‘Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day’. Today, we have given our mothers and children rice, and we have fed them with love. On behalf of the Women’s League and the beneficiaries, we say thank you.”

She emphasised that the ruling party remains structurally committed to caring for vulnerable groups to ensure national food security is achieved in line with Vision 2030 and the Second National Development Strategy (NDS2). She also appealed to Zimbabweans to increase social support for elderly communities.

ZANU PF Secretary for External Affairs Cde Betty Kaseke highlighted that the league will extend its outreach programme to several additional children’s homes before Christmas and New Year.

Representing the beneficiaries, Matthew Rusike Children’s Home official Reverend Linneclink Mutendzwa commended the league for sourcing the food relief.

“We are happy to receive food for the children at various children’s homes. We really appreciate the support,” Rev Mutendzwa stated, adding that the commodities would significantly ease the day-to-day operational challenges institutions face when catering for residents over the festive season.
