The Zanu-PF Women’s League has introduced new regalia for the revolutionary party that among other things depicts the country’s founding values including the national goals as enshrined in the Zim-Asset blueprint that seeks to achieve socio-economic development.
Explaining the philosophy behind the new Zanu-PF regalia on the first day of the 16th National Annual People’s conference, which kicked off at Masvingo Showgrounds yesterday, Women’s League secretary Dr Grace Mugabe, said the ruling party needed new regalia.
The Women’s League secretary was invited by Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Dr Ignatious Chombo to explain the motivation behind the new party regalia to thousands of delegates.
Dr Mugabe said the previous party regalia had been used for far too long hence the introduction of new regalia.
Among the main features on the new Zanu-PF regalia is the map of Zimbabwe which is shaped like a tea cup, and a maize cob that depicts the country’s staple food.
“We discovered that we had been wearing the same (old Zanu-PF) regalia for many years, and resolved to come up with new regalia, which shows that we are Zimbabweans and we live in Zimbabwe,’’ she said.
“People do not realise that on the new regalia, there is a map of Zimbabwe, which is tea-cup shaped. We drink from the tea cup, meaning that we all benefit from our country’s resources. We also have a maize cob on the new regalia because maize is our staple food and this also shows that we are agriculturalists. We also have the Zimbabwean flower the Flame Lily on the new regalia,’’ added Dr Mugabe.
The First Lady also said all the five clusters reflected in Zim-Asset are incorporated on the new regalia.
Another outstanding feature on the regalia was the picture of President Mugabe’s face.
‘’We put the President’s face because he is our teacher, and to show that we all believe in him,’’ she said.
The Zanu-PF Women’s League secretary said as was the norm, the new regalia had national colours namely black, green, yellow and red.
Dr Mugabe said besides dresses and shirts, the new regalia would also be used to make caps, T-Shirts and berets that would be sold to raise funds for the Zanu-PF Women’s League programmes.
“I hope you will like it and those who buy will be supporting us to raise money for our programmes. This is our new party regalia from now on and you will get a lot of things made in the new regalia and I hope you will like it,’’ said Dr Mugabe.
