THE nationwide programme initiated by Zanu-PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs Cde Grace Mugabe to equip the party’s women league provincial executive members with leadership skills, kicked off in Bulawayo yesterday.
The programme is aimed at equipping members with leadership and administrative skills in preparation for the forthcoming 2018 harmonised elections.
Women’s League Provincial Executive Council members from Matabeleland South, North and Bulawayo yesterday attended a leadership workshop which was held at the Bulawayo Polytechnic.
Speaking at the workshop, deputy secretary for women affairs Cde Eunice Nomthandazo Moyo, who is also the Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister said the women’s league was the vanguard of the party, which was expected to support and sustain it.
“Demographically we command numerical superiority, comprising 52 percent of the national population. This critical mass is a fertile ground for mobilisation and indeed makes the league an effective mobilisation machinery.
“We should remember that women are the vanguard of the party, the main pillar that supports and sustains our revolutionary party. We are the critical mass that keeps our party strong. The state of the party hinges on the women’s league, and of course, the youth league,” said Cde Moyo.
“The training is on leadership, party structures, communication methods as leaders within the party and how to strengthen the party as well as taking members through the party’s constitution.”
She said the only way the league could stay connected to the public was to provide services to the electorate.
“Our mandate is to provide services to our client. The electorate expects nothing less than development results and good leadership. Our rallying message should be; women for results. To achieve this we must have a results-oriented work culture,” she said.
She urged the women’s league members to be united and avoid conflicts to achieve the goal of delivering good services to their clients.
Cde Moyo added that it was important to empower women so that they can work with the people at the grassroots level, growing the party and mapping the way forward as they approach the 2018 elections.
The Matabeleland South induction workshop was held at Esigodini while Lupane Hall hosted the Matabeleland North province workshop on Wednesday.
