THE Zanu-PF Women’s League has pledged to deliver a resounding victory for the ruling party in the upcoming harmonised elections by ensuring the party gets six million votes
Speaking on Monday during a meeting in Gwanda, Zanu-PF Women’s League Secretary, Cde Mabel Chinomona, said President Mnangagwa has given women under the revolutionary party the opportunity to lead and defend the party.
The meeting was held concurrently with the Zanu-PF Women’s League entrepreneurial skills training outreach programme, which was organised by the Inter-denominational Indigenous Council of Churches (ZIICC).
A total of 130 women from the province received certificates after completing training in detergent making. The graduates can now produce dish washing liquid, pine jel, foam bath, petroleum jelly, toilet cleaner, lotion and liquid soap.
Cde Chinomona said President Mnangagwa set a high standard after his star rally in Matabeleland South last weekend in Bulilima District attracted a bumper crowd and said now the challenge was on party structures to do their part.
“The Zanu-PF Matabeleland South star rally, which was held in Bulilima last weekend had a record-breaking attendance, which means that this province is a strong hold of the party. From here make sure you mobilise more people to vote.
“We want everyone who attended that rally to vote Zanu-PF, even those who didn’t attend. We also want the votes of those people who are not members of Zanu-PF,” she said.
Cde Chinomona said if people want to be empowered, the party to vote for was Zanu-PF because its already empowering people regardless of one’s politcal party. She said the party leadership should assist those who left the party to return to the party and help build the country.
Cde Chinomona said women were the majority and as such should play a leading role in building and defending the party.
She said President Mnangagwa was a listening leader who is concerned with the welfare of the people hence the introduction of the entrepreneurial skills training outreach programme.
Cde Chinomona urged women to fully utilise the skills they have acquired to fend for their families and develop the country. She said the duty of the women in the party is to develop the organisation and not divide it out of love of positions.
“Let’s come together as women and use the skills that we have acquired to start viable projects. Don’t stop here but go on to train other women as well,” she said.
Cde Chinomona said women should aim to grow big to the extent of even establishing their own factories as Government was committed to assisting them.
“People are already seeing the fruits of Zanu-PF empowerment programmes and the challenge is to do more for the people so that the beneficiairies can contribute to the growth of the economy,” she said.
Cde Chinomona urged newcomers in the party to learn from their old colleagues so that together they can work as a united people.
“These old members have worked for years to build the party and as such they have very useful information that should assist new members,” she said.
One of the graduates, Cde Sister Bhebhe, said she was grateful for the training and look forward to starting an income generating project. — @DubeMatutu
