The Zanu-PF Women’s League has sent a message of condolences to the families of people who died due to Cyclone Idai that struck mainly Chimanimani and Chipinge districts in Manicaland.
At least 98 people have been confirmed dead due to the natural phenomenon, 217 are missing, 102 injured, while 42 are still marooned.
In a statement yesterday, the Women’s League said it was greatly saddened by the catastrophe and was praying that the Almighty gives comfort to the bereaved and affected families.
“Following the devastating effects of Cyclone Idai, which has largely affected Chimanimani and Chipinge in Manicaland Province and parts of Masvingo, the Zanu-PF Women’s League wishes to extend deepest sympathy and condolences to families whose loved ones perished in this natural phenomenon,” said the league.
It said it acknowledged the efforts by President Mnangagwa and Government rescue teams and the national civil protection unit, as well as well-wishers that are assisting to save life and property.
“As the Women’s League, we will make efforts to give moral and material support to the affected families as we call upon other progressive leagues within the region, humanitarian organisations and well-wishers to assist in this national disaster,” said the league.
The Meteorological Services Department has indicated that the cyclone has since died down and only heavy rains h remain. President Mnangagwa declared that a state of disaster exists in all cyclone-affected areas in terms of Section 27 (1) of the Civil Protection Act Chapter 10:06 of 1989.
