Zanu-PF Youth League appoints acting Bulawayo chairperson

THE Zanu-PF Youth League has appointed Cde Anna Mokgohloa as the acting chairperson for Bulawayo province following last month’s suspension of Cde Khumbulani Mpofu for allegedly fanning factionalism.

A vote of no confidence was passed against Cde Mpofu in August last year, a decision that was later set aside by the Politburo only for the Youth League to suspend him again last month after concluding that he was still dividing youths.

National secretary for the commissariat in Zanu-PF’s Youth League, Cde Innocent Hamandishe, recently wrote a letter to Bulawayo’s provincial chairperson Cde Dennis Ndlovu notifying him of Cde Mokgohloa’s appointment.

“This letter serves to confirm that Cde Anna Mokgohloa is the acting Youth League chairperson as appointed by the national commissar of the Zanu-PF Youth League until further notice,” reads part of Cde Hamandishe’s letter dated January 22.

“This office is advising you to work with her in that capacity as the acting chairperson of Bulawayo Youth League.”

Yesterday, Zanu-PF’s provincial secretary for administration, Cde Nacisio Makhulumo, said the party’s procedures were observed in appointing Cde Mokgohloa.

He said Cde Mpofu’s vote of no confidence was overturned by the Politburo but youths then suspended him indefinitely.

Cde Makhulumo said Cde Mpofu was reprimanded by the Politburo on November 9 last year, but youths suspended him a month later after it was realised that he had not repented.

“Anna has been appointed. Initially a vote of no confidence was passed against Cde Mpofu from districts’ but the decision was overturned when it was taken to the Politburo.

“However, the youths sat after the conference with their Youth League national leaders including Cde Hamandishe and politburo members from Bulawayo where it was resolved that he be suspended,” said Cde Makhulumo.

He said this led to the appointment of Cde Mokgohloa in an acting capacity until further notice.
