ZANU-PF youths in Makokoba constituency have embarked on roadshows in four districts to canvas support for party candidate, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube ahead of the June 10 by-election.
The districts covered by the roadshows are Ziyaphapha, Jairos Jiri, Mzilikazi and Westgate.
The Chronicle news crew caught up with over 800 youths in Barbourfields suburb as they marched and sang revolutionary songs. Others were addressing members of the public on the benefits of voting for Zanu-PF and Rtd Col Dube.
The youths, who were dressed in party regalia, said they were optimistic that Zanu-PF would reclaim the seat lost to MDC-T in the July 2013 elections.
Cde Thembinkosi Ncube, one of the coordinators of the roadshows said they started on Sunday in Jairos Jiri District and would move to Mzilikazi and Westgate in the coming days to drum up support ahead of the by-election next week.
“It’s high time that Zanu-PF reclaims the seat and we’re holding road shows as we campaign for Cde Tshinga Dube. It’s our hope and prayer that we reach many people in this constituency who are going to put a cross on Great Zimbabwe (Zanu-PF symbol on the ballot paper),” he said.
Cde Ncube said Rtd Col Dube was a tried and tested member of the ruling party who had made two unsuccessful attempts to land the seat in 2008 and 2013.
Zanu-PF is expected to stage a star rally at Barbourfields Stadium on June 6.
Rtd Col Dube will battle it out with the NCA’s Mable Ngwenya; Mavambo Kusile Dawn’s Wilson Peter; ZAPU’s Jonathan Ndlovu and Sehlelo Nkomo of Transform Zimbabwe as well as two independent candidates Sibangilizwe Msipa and Joan Dhlodlo.
