Zanu-PF youths seek return of stolen $30 000

Tawanda Mangoma in Chiredzi
Thousands of Zanu-PF youths in Masvingo have appealed to the ruling party leadership in the province to urgently facilitate reimbursement of more than $30 000 they were conned of in a housing stands project in Chiredzi. The victims were allegedly swindled by the previous Zanu-PF Masvingo youth provincial executive led by fugitive former ruling party Masvingo youth chair Mr Nobert Ndaarombe who has since been expelled from the revolutionary party. The youths were made to pay registration fees ranging between $10 and $20 ahead of allocation of residential stands in the sugar-cane growing town.

Besides Mr Ndaarombe the other people implicated in the scam is ruling party Youth League national secretary for Science and Technology Development Cde Martin Zinyoro and Zimbabwe Youth Council Chiredzi chair Cde Simba Huchu. They all stand accused of duping close to 3 000 Zanu-PF youths in Masvingo of their hard-earned cash.

Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial youth league secretary for Economic Affairs Cde Phillip Chieza last week said youths in Chiredzi had for a long time complained about lack of transparency in the housing stands project.

“Youths in Chiredzi started complaining about this project way back, but they were being shot down. As we are undertaking party business we are being confronted by questions about the progress made in the allocation of stands. The youths want their stands or money back,” said Cde Chieza.

Zanu-PF Ward 4 Youth chairman for Chiredzi Urban Cde Liberty Macharaga said the duped youths wanted the issue to be addressed before the forthcoming elections.

“Our appeal is that those who took our money should pay it back if they cannot give us our money then we should get our residential stands,” said Cde Macharaga.

Zanu-PF Masvingo Provincial chairman Cde Ezra Chadzamira said the party leadership was dealing with the matter but urged the victims to report the matter to police so that criminal charges can be preferred against the culprits.

“We told the Zanu-PF youths in Chiredzi to engage the police. Zanu-PF doesn’t condone thievery hence the need to report such cases,” said Cde Chadzamira. When The Herald visited Rhino Projects offices, where the housing stands project was run from, the place was deserted. It is alleged that Rhino Projects claimed to have 100 hectares of land to develop residential stands for Zanu-PF youths.
