The Zanu PF Far East Asia District (FAED), which comprises party members based in China, Japan, Thailand, and South Korea, has joined the call for the lifting of sanctions against Zimbabwe.
In a statement made in solidarity with the SADC Anti-Sanctions Day, commemorated on October 25, the FAED said, “These coercive measures, which have existed for decades, have severely harmed Zimbabwe’s economic progress and continue to cause tremendous suffering to ordinary Zimbabweans who have no part in political disputes.”
FAED noted that the sanctions have harmed Zimbabwe’s production sector and made it challenging for the country to access international financial systems.
Recognizing that Zimbabweans living in the diaspora have also been affected by the sanctions, the FAED stated that these restrictive measures limit international transactions and opportunities for hardworking Zimbabwean citizens abroad.
“We therefore call for the immediate and unconditional lifting of all sanctions, as they contradict the principles of fairness, sovereignty, and international cooperation. We believe it is time for the international community and the US to recognise the strength and peaceful intentions of the Zimbabwean people, who have continued to engage in dialogue and reform despite their adversity.”
Looking towards a more prosperous future, FAED urged the United States to pivot towards a relationship built on enhanced dialogue, increased trade, and mutually beneficial cooperation. They pointed to the vast, untapped potential for both nations to strengthen ties for their mutual advantage.
“This is also a time to reaffirm our collective commitment to justice, solidarity, and the rights of all nations to develop and determine their futures without interference from outside forces,” said the organisation.
