THE Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) has formalised its commitment to anti-corruption efforts, with its board and senior officials signing integrity pledges aimed at bolstering corporate transparency and accountability.
The signing ceremony, held in Harare today, involved key ZCDC figures, including board chair Dr Onesimo Mazai Moyo and chief executive officer Dr Douglas Zimbango.
This exercise was supervised by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), represented by compliance and systems review officer Ms Memory Tagwireyi.
Integrity pledges function as individual commitments to act ethically and resist corruption, serving as a social contract for enhanced governance.
Speaking soon after signing the integrity pledges, ZCDC CEO Dr Zimbango said the pledges were crucial given the company’s vast financial scope and its role as a significant contributor to national revenue.
“We are a big company that procures over US$100 million every year, so we want this done in a proper and value-enhancing manner,” he said.
“This is just one way of us as management of the ZCDC to show our commitment to acting in a manner that promotes transparency and integrity within our operations.”
Dr Zimbango also detailed the revenue streams, which make strict ethical oversight a prerequisite.
“ZCDC is the largest diamond mining company in the country, contributing significantly to the growth of the sector,” he added.
“We mine up to 6,5 million carats every year, which brings in over US$ 200 million a year. So out of this US$200 million, we pay taxes, we pay levies to the Government, and we also pay something to the community that we live in.”
Board chair Dr Oneismo Mazai Moyo weighed in, saying the adoption of the pledges aligns the company with broader national development goals.
“The integrity pledges really promote integrity, accountability, and transparency in the operation and in the conduct of ZCDC’s business,” he said.
“Not only for ZCDC but for the nation at large. So it is quite a historic event for our company, ZCDC, because we are contributing to national development and to Vision 2030 by adopting integrity pledges.”
The move reinforces ZACC’s ongoing initiative to introduce integrity systems across State-Owned Enterprises to improve public confidence and curb graft in state institutions.
Ms Tagwireyi said: “This pledge serves as a reminder that you are required to execute your duties with transparency and honesty, in strict adherence to all governing guidelines.”
