ZEC to hold stakeholder consultations tomorrow

The meeting will also explore ways of building synergies in managing conflict.
The commission will meet the Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee, the Organ for National Healing, Reconciliation and Integration and the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission.
ZEC chief elections officer Mr Lovemore Sekeramayi said in a statement that the meeting was a follow-up to a one day workshop on conflict management for ZEC internal stakeholders on June 22.
He said ZEC’s mission was to conduct elections and referendums in accordance with the laws of Zimbabwe and electoral management best practice through a well resourced commission and in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
“Voter registration is continuing and the electorate is urged to register. Your vote is your right,” Mr Sekeramayi said.
Early this month, ZEC conducted pilot tests of the Voter Education Guide (Veg) as it steps up preparations for the referendum and harmonised elections expected this year.
The guide followed a voter education pro-cess that began in August last year with the design of a more sustained voter education programme and development of requisite vo-ter education materials, including a 56-page draft Veg in consultation with stakeholders.
Zimbabwe faces a possible election this year to end the life of the shaky inclusive Government which the three major political parties in the country entered into in 2009.
The constitution-making process, which started over two years ago and is yet to reach its conclusion, has delayed polls.
