PREPARATIONS for the 2025 edition of the Zimbabwe Economic Development Conference (ZEDCON) are underway, with the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion coordinating efforts in collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure a robust and inclusive platform for policy discourse.
The high-level conference, scheduled for September, is designed to explore innovative strategies for implementing macroeconomic and sectoral policies that foster broad-based economic transformation in an ever-evolving global economic environment.
In a statement, the Ministry said, “The Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, in collaboration with other stakeholders, is organising the Zimbabwe Economic Development Conference (ZEDCON) 2025.
“The conference aims to explore strategies for macroeconomic and sectoral policies for broad-based economic transformation in the face of ever-evolving global economic dynamics.
“ZEDCON 2025 aims to bring together researchers, academics, development partners, corporates, economic think tanks, and representative organisations to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and discuss best practices for implementing macroeconomic and sectoral policies that drive inclusive and broad-based economic growth.”
ZEDCON 2025 will focus on seven key thematic pillars that are central to Zimbabwe’s economic transformation agenda, ranging from macroeconomic growth and stability, informal sector growth and resource mobilisation, infrastructure development, technology, digital, and AI interventions.
In addition, the conference will also explore diaspora investment frameworks and policies, as well as regional integration and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
As part of its inclusive approach, the organisers are calling for the submission of abstracts and research papers from a diverse range of participants.
“The conference invites researchers, academics, development partners, corporates, economic think tanks, and representative organisations to submit abstracts. Special consideration will be given to junior and early-career researchers as well as female scholars to encourage diverse participation,” read part of the statement.
ZEDCON has become a flagship platform for aligning academic research with national policy direction, and the 2025 edition is expected to yield actionable insights that contribute meaningfully to Vision 2030 and beyond.
