Energy and Power Development Minister Elton Mangoma yesterday said the power utility would pay another US$30 million by Monday next week.
Zesa owes HCB US$76 million.
HCB has agreed to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the interim if Zimbabwe reduces its debt to below US$40 million.
“I can tell you that US$10 million has been paid to Mozambique and the remaining US$30 million will be paid on Friday and Monday,” said Minister Mangoma.
“We are transferring something on Friday and then we will pay everything by Monday. This is as a result of technical problems, but I can tell you that the money is there.”
Minister Mangoma said the payment will improve the power situation in the country.
“This definitely means more power for the nation and we will continue working hard to ensure we ease power outages being experienced,” he said.
Zesa tried to mobilise the funds through massive disconnections, but the response from domestic and commercial electricity consumers has failed to address the matter.
Domestic and commercial consumers owe Zesa Holdings about US$550 million.
Most residents, especially in high-density areas, are going for almost 10 hours per day without power.
Zimbabwe requires about 2 200 megawatts daily, but generates only 1 300MW.
