ZFU to host three-day Agribusiness Expo

congress.
Addressing journalists in Harare, Zimbabwe Farmers Union executive director Mr Paul Zakariya said the event would attract 800 delegates from across Zimbabwe.
Government, the private sector, donor community and other strategic partners in the agricultural sector are expected to attend the expo.

“The initiative is in response to the increasing need from our membership to be exposed to suppliers of agricultural services in Zimbabwe and keep them abreast with new developments and technologies in Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector.

“It is our hope and desire that through such an initiative, deals can be structured to avail inputs and implements to the generality of our producers,” he said.
“The expo will bring together the who’s who in the agricultural industry in the country and it definitely will be a platform for these companies to engage in dialogue with their clients, resulting in demand-driven products and services to satisfy the requirements of their clients.”

Fifty companies in the agricultural sector from seed houses, fertiliser, agric-equipment manufacturing companies, banks and other service providers are expected to grace the occasion. The expo is designed to increase interaction, dialogue and rapport between the farming community and the manufacturers of agricultural inputs and implements and service providers in the country.

Comesa regional agro input programme communications coordinator, Mr Retlaw Matorwa, said his organisation takes pride in such initiatives as it creates synergies that will benefit farmers both small holder and commercial and agro-businesses.

“The expo is pertinent in establishing networks and partnerships that will benefit the agricultural sector,” Mr Matorwa said. “It is important for farmers to interact with service providers in the industry to gain knowledge on products that are on the market.”
He said access to inputs and market information remains a serious challenge to farmers especially in rural areas.
