THE Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) is racing against time to raise $110 000 for the forthcoming All-Africa Golf Tournament to be held at the Elephant Hills Golf Course in Victoria Falls next month.

ZGA president Mufaro Chivonivoni revealed that they had managed to raise $75 000 for the event that will be held from October 8-14, with 19 countries participating.

Among countries that have already confirmed their participation are Ghana, Seychelles, Mali, Nigeria, South Africa, Reunion Islands, Kenya, Namibia, Tunisia, Zambia, Mauritius, Uganda, Swaziland, Angola and Morocco.

“Financially we are in a tight corner as we have not raised what we will need for the tournament. We have a shortfall of about $45 000 and the response is not as great as we would have wanted,” said Chivonivoni.

He said besides financial constraints, all other administrative preparations were on course and they were looking forward to a good field, with Team Zimbabwe already in camp preparing for the big event.

The Zimbabwe team is made up of Tonderai Masunga, David Ann, Tafara Mpofu, Tatenda Makunde and Rasheed Mohammed.

The All-Africa Golf Team Championships are held every two years and Zimbabwe finished third behind winners South Africa and hosts Kenya in the 2015 event.

Countries are requested to send four of their top national amateur players along with a coach and president of their national association/union for a contingent total of six.

The tournament is used to prepare top African amateur golfers for the World Amateur Team Championships that are held every two years under the auspices of the International Golf Federation.
