RASHEED Mahomed will lead the Zimbabwe Golf Team at the 32nd Eisenhower Trophy, formerly World Amateur Team Championships (WATC), which will be held in Paris, France, from August 31 to September 3.
Zimbabwe will be among 61 other golf-playing nations at the prestigious event after they qualified because of their standing on the world rankings.
The team, which left the country this morning, will have Mahomed, Keagan Shutt and Clifford Sibanda.
The Zimbabwe Golf Association president, Martin Chikwana, who is also the head of delegation, said he is confident that they will do well at the tournament.
“We are glad to announce the team which will represent us at this year’s World Amateur Team Championships (WATC) tournament and we are confident that they will do well. We have an experienced team that has played in some competitive tournaments.
“We have faith in our coach Phillip Tshuma who has experience after guiding the junior golf team in Japan.
“We qualified by virtue of our players’ rankings on the world amateur rankings,” said Chikwana.
Mahomed said they are ready for the challenge and are looking forward to bring home some medals.
“It is a pleasure to be representing your country at such a high profile tournament. I am going to do my best and make sure that we finish strongly in the tournament,” said Mahomed.
