ZHF to appear for disciplinary hearing

SPORTS Commission director for sport development, Joseph Muchechetere, has revealed that the Zimbabwe Handball Federation are now expected to appear before the board’s disciplinary committee. The ZHF failed to respond to the Commission’s directive last month to publish a notice on the elections.

The ZHF were expected to have published a notice on the elections and were on October 23 expected to meet the Sports Commission to be assisted on the electoral procedure.

But Muchechetere said they have not received any communication from the local handball Federation and the deadline for the elections was fast approaching.

ZHF were initially expected to hold the elections on March 31 at the expiry of the Amon Madzvamuse-led interim committee’s term of office but they failed and so far they have had three aborted elections.

The local handball mother-body in August defied another directive when they were ordered to elect a substantive executive by August 31.

“In terms of the instructions we had given them, it appears no one took heed of those instructions.

“Now the next move is we are now sending them for a disciplinary hearing. So the board’s committee on disciplinary is going to convene on the 13th (of this month), that’s when it (the ZHF interim executive board) is to appear before a disciplinary hearing.

“They have not responded because we should have seen the notice. So that’s the only route we are going because we have already informed them that if they fail to put a notice by this time then we are taking it to a disciplinary hearing. We have tried to help them administratively,” said Muchechetere.

Meanwhile, AM Handball Academy owned by Madzvamuse, is this month expected to host an invitational tournament featuring some teams from South Africa at Queen Elizabeth School in Harare. One of the tournament’s organisers, Bernard Muzanenhamo, said the event scheduled for November 28 and 29 is for seniors and juniors.

“The tournament is for junior and senior teams. We are expecting teams from Under-14, Under-18 and Under-20 to the seniors to take part.

“We are expecting four teams from South Africa. We have already communicated with the teams and they are willing to come.

“The purpose of the tournament is to try and have many games in the country. Our teams want to play but at the moment we don’t have a league running. “With the teams from South Africa, we want to create competition to weigh our level of competition and see if we are improving,” said Muzanenhamo.
