THE Zimbabwe Congress of Students Unions (ZICOSU) has thrown its weight behind Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3, with its Mashonaland Central Provincial Executive emerging from a successful congress with a firm and unified stance in support of the proposed legislative changes.
The provincial congress, held over the weekend in Bindura, brought together student representatives from tertiary institutions across the country in a show of unity and organisational strength.
ZICOSU national vice president, Cde Ridgewell Bitton, who presided over the proceedings, commended the incoming Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) for their commitment to student leadership and urged them to prioritise unity, collaboration, and service delivery.
He also further expressed ZICOSU’s strong endorsement of the Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3, describing it as a progressive instrument designed to consolidate gains in governance and ensure policy continuity that benefits the youth and the broader student community.
He emphasised that the amendment is rooted in resolutions adopted at successive ZANU PF Annual People’s Conferences, reflecting what he termed the “collective will of the people.”
“Under the Second Republic, Zimbabwe has recorded significant progress in infrastructure development, agriculture, and industrial growth,” he said.
“It is critical that students, as future leaders, support policies that safeguard and accelerate these gains.”
He further highlighted the importance of sustained leadership under President Mnangagwa, noting that continuity up to 2030 is essential for maintaining the country’s current development momentum.
The congress resolutions signal a growing alignment between student leadership structures and national policy direction, with ZICOSU positioning itself as a key stakeholder in shaping Zimbabwe’s future.
As the new provincial leadership takes office, expectations are high that it will mobilise students across Mashonaland Central to support Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3, reinforcing the broader national consensus around continuity, stability, and development.
