The Independent Ethics Committee on the Asiagate is scheduled to start conducting its hearings this week.
Seasoned sports administrator and President of the Administrative Court, Custom Kachambwa, Sello Nare and retired Fifa referee Gladmore Muzambi have been appointed as the Zifa Disciplinary Committee to deal specifically with the Centralgate issue
The trio took their oath of office before Gumede who said they would appoint each other to the positions of chairperson, secretary and committee member.
“The mandate of these gentlemen, who are distinguished in their backgrounds, emanate from what has been termed the Centralgate in our football.
“There was suspicion within the Central Region of match-fixing after someone tapped and implicated board members and officials.
“Because of these suspicions, two board members have been suspended.
“As the Zifa board we did not hold any investigations after the allegations but simply made the suspensions and then later followed it up by setting an investigating committee to probe the issue,” said Gumede.
Zifa board member for the Central Region, Patrick Hokonya, and his counterpart from the Southern Region, Gift Banda, have been placed on suspension for allegedly trying to influence the outcome of matches in the Central Region last season.
Vice-chairperson of the Zifa Referee’s Committee, Samukeliso Silangane was also fingered by referee Cosmos Nyoni who is the star witness in the case.
Zifa then set up an investigating team headed by Mudzamiri and included Esther Mubaiwa, Wilfred Mukuna and Rueben Pwanyiwa to probe the allegations.
“Mudzamiri and company have done their work and at the weekend they were in Bulawayo.
“It came out from their investigations that they could be some grain of truths in the allegations and this is why we have set up this Disciplinary Committee to determine who will be charged.
“So the disciplinary committee on the local match-fixing will take their brief from the findings of Mudzamiri and his team,” said Gumede.
Gumede said Zifa chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze will be at the disposal of the committee.
“Our CEO, Mashingaidze will be at their disposal and assist them with anything,” said Gumede.
In their terms of references, the Centralgate Disciplinary Committee is expected to start inviting individuals fingered in the report by Mudzamiri to the hearings.
It is understood that several match officials like Nkosana Nduna, Nyoni, Sungano Makwangudzwa, Musiya Buyani, David Ngwenya and Alfred Mbuse are anxious to know their fate.
The committee will also pronounce sanctions against the people who will have been convicted in terms of Zifa and Fifa statutes.
Nare, who is also a judge like Kachambwa, said it was a challenge for him to take up the offer.
“I was with Zifa some time in 1986 when former Minister (of Education, Sport and Culture (David) Kwidini was there and I was secretary for the Southern Region.
“I have taken up this new challenge and hope to do the job faithfully and to the best of our ability,” said Nare.
Kachambwa believes that the appointment was a show of confidence in him by Zifa after he has served on the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee and the Sports Commission.
“I thank Zifa for showing this confidence in me.
“I have came a long way in sports with ZOC and the SRC and I have followed football and have sat in a number of inquiries.
“Now we hope to do a good job for Zifa in particular and Zimbabwe football in general.
“We hope to finalise this matter within the shortest possible time,” said Kachambwa.
Muzambi, who is a former Zifa board member, said he was humbled by the appointment.
