RECENTLY elected Zifa executive member, Thomas Marambanyika has challenged the football family to get down to business.
He was speaking at the Zifa Southern Region awards ceremony held in Bulawayo today.
Marambanyika said electioneering had long stopped and it is about time buried the hatchet and worked in harmony for the development of the game in Zimbabwe.
“Let this ceremony mark the end of rhetoric and be the beginning of action, the elections are over, the politicking is done, it is time we focused on one thing, work, let’s work towards transformation. We are not politicians, we are custodians of football, politicians campaign perpetually, we deliver perpetually,” said Marambanyika.
He said the new executive will work hard to restore the pride of Zimbabwean football
Meanwhile Harmony Nare was this afternoon crowned the Zifa Southern Region Soccer Star of the Year.
Nare, who joined Caps United early this year, was outstanding in goal for ZPC Hwange who won the ticket to the Premiership.
With ZPC Hwange unable to play in the Castle Lager Premiership due to club licensing issues where teams from same company cannot play in the league, their franchise was taken by MWOS of Norton leaving the Southern Region the biggest loser.
ZPC also sponsor another team by the same name in Kariba.
After Arenel, Bulawayo Chiefs and Hwange were relegated, the region is now left with just Chicken Inn and Highlanders and moving the ZPC Hwange slot to the Northern Region, has left the two very vulnerable.
Nare has since joined Caps United in Harare and in an interview this evening, he said he is looking forward to the challenge.
Mbongeni Minezhi who was with Bulawayo City and signed for Scottland last month, emerged as the first runner-up with Casmyn’s Wilfred Nzondo the second runner-up.
Zimpapers Sports Hub reporters Fungai Muderere and Innocent Kurira were adjudged the best print journalists while Mgcini Gumede and Praise Dlakama won the electronic media gong.
Football legends were honoured too.
Paul Moyo, Chris Mhlanga, Gibson Homela and Lawrence Phiri were among the recipients at a function where Zifa executive member Thomas Marambanyika was guest of honour.
