ZIMBABWE Football Association (Zifa) vice-president Omega Sibanda lost property worth $3,650 after a Bulawayo man who had offered to buy his furniture went into hiding before paying for it.
Bulawayo magistrate Sibongile Msipa heard that Tariraishe Gwenzi of Queensdale who appeared before her facing a fraud charge, collected the furniture, but did not pay for it.

Gwenzi pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded out of custody to September 29 for trial.

Prosecuting, Caroline Matanga narrated how sometime in October 2011, Gwenzi approached Sibanda and offered to purchase restaurant furniture from him.

Sibanda charged Gwenzi $3,650 for the furniture, which was being kept at the  businessman’s house. The court heard that the two agreed that Gwenzi would pay for the property soon after he had finished transporting it to his place.

“Gwenzi went to Sibanda’s house and loaded the first and second batches of the furniture into his truck and disappeared without paying for the furniture,” said Matanga.

The court heard that each time Sibanda contacted Gwenzi over the issue, the latter would give flimsy excuses. Sibanda made a police report leading to Gwenzi’s arrest.
