Zifa Central Soccer League season ends

THE curtain comes down on the Zifa Central Soccer League season today when the clubs play their final matches. Whawha wrapped up the championship to earn the right to represent the region in the Premiership last weekend after beating Gweru City 1-0 while Nkayi United and Chomumvuri Pirates’ short stint in the league came to an abrupt end and they will be heading back to Division Two.

As such there will be nothing to play for in the final round of games save for pride.

Pick of the fixtures will be the top-of-the table clash pitting champions Whawha who take on MSU, a match which many had predicted would decide the destiny of the championship but has been reduced to a dead rubber.

However, both sides said they will take the match seriously and end the season on a high.

“We’re going to face MSU with the sole intention of proving that we’re the real champions and as a way of leaving the league on a high. Therefore, we’re taking this match seriously and as such we’ll field our strongest squad,” said Whawha coach, Luke Petros-Jukulile.

His counterpart, Godfrey Chuchu, said his side was disappointed with missing out on promotion but would want to atone for that by beating the champions.

“Of course it’s painful to miss out on promotion especially after working so hard the entire season. The only way we can get solace is by beating the champions so that we take with us a positive mind to next season,” he said.

In other matches, third placed ZRP Beitbridge finish their campaign with a date against Silo United at Dulibadzimu Stadium while Gweru City will be hoping to end on a high when they take on Zvishavane Stars.
