ZIFA Eastern Region will reduce the gate levies from Division One matches by half in a move that is aimed at easing the burden on clubs, the newly elected chairman has said. Davison Muchena was elected chairman of the Zifa Eastern Region on Sunday after amassing 17 votes ahead of Mutare legal practitioner, Ashley Mutungura who garnered eight votes.
Mutungura will now have to live with the pain of being betrayed by his own kinsmen after some Manicaland clubs, on whom he had pinned his hopes allegedly decided not to vote for him.
In an interview, the winning candidate, Muchena said he would reduce the gate levies for Division One League matches.
“We will hold our AGM and if resources permitting an induction workshop as soon as we finalise dates with the other board members. As per my election manifesto, I want the Eastern Region to be run through committees.
“I will be happy if every Zifa councillor contributes positively to the way the region does its business. We don’t want squabbles in this great region.
“I have already requested the councillors to send us their CVs so that we can allocate them committees according to their strength.
“It is agreed that no team will kick the ball in a league match without licences from 2016 onwards.
Because of the economic hardships in our country, our teams are struggling with finances and as a result, we will cut gate levy from 20 percent to 10 percent with immediate effect,” said Muchena.
