THE ZIFA Eastern Region Soccer League will host a two-day workshop over the weekend in Mutare.
The workshop is set to focus on empowering the league patrons by keeping them abreast with the rules and regulations of the game, and the registration and transfer of players which is considered to be crucial in the development of the league professionally.
The region will also be focusing on security officers who are a key component in keeping the image of the league intact in the face of rowdy fans who turn violent.
This season alone, two cases of violence have already been reported with match officials being attacked in matches that pitted FC Hunters and Rusitu Tigers and JM Busha against FC Wangu Mazodze.
Speaking ahead of the workshop, ERSL vice chairman Wisdom Simba stressed the importance of the workshop in equipping the human capital in the league as a step in enhancing professionalism.
“The game of football is always dynamic and keeps changing. We have to make sure the people responsible for the running of the league are always equipped and ready to adapt to the changes that come with it on a daily basis.
“This weekend we will be having a first workshop for the executive on Saturday. We will be looking at the rules and regulations of the game. A close focus will be on the laws as we have to keep abreast with the world.
“Also we will be also looking into the registration and transfer of players which is a key component also of the game.
“On Sunday we will be shifting focus to the security officers. Of late our game has been marred with violence. We have seen match officials being attacked twice on different occasions.
“We hope that if there is enough knowledge for stewards on how to handle and manage crowds the league will have a better outcome. A number of renowned technical persons will oversee the workshop,” he said.
Over the weekend, FC Wangu Mazodze dropped points after being held to a one-all draw against Bikita Minerals.
However, they still retained their top spot with 38 points and three points clear of second-placed Tenax. Tenax edged Renco Mine 1-0 and they have a game in hand.
