THE Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) has expelled Mvuma Stars from the league for failing to settle their affiliation fees with the regional football governing body. Turmoil has often taken centre stage in the CSL with a club being expelled every season since the inception of the league. Stars were only invited into the league at the beginning of the season, but failed to honour their obligation resulting in the league pulling the plug on them.
CSL board member Stanley Chapeta said each team that was meant to play Stars would be awarded the game on a 3-0 score line.
“I can confirm that Mvuma Stars is no longer part of the Zifa Central Soccer League after failing to pay its affiliation fees in full with the league.
“We’ve resolved that every team will be awarded three points for the reverse fixtures the club was supposed to fulfil,” said Chapeta.
This means Border Strikers, who were supposed to travel to Mvuma, have three points in the bag and opened a four-point lead at the top of the league table with 43 points from 19 games.
Army outfit Tongogara, who are second with 39 points, now face the mammoth task of beating fellow championship contenders Sable Chemicals, who are on 38 points, to maintain pressure on the log leaders.
Both sides need to win the match at any cost if they entertain any hopes of dislodging the Beitbridge-based outfit.
