The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) successfully hosted a transformative CAF C Refresher Course at the ZIFA Village from 13 to 17 October 2025 marking a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s football education and coaching development pathway.

The five-day programme brought together nineteen (19) coaches from various clubs, academies, and institutions across the country. Under the direct guidance of FIFA and CAF educators, participants engaged in a balanced curriculum combining hands-on training with modern theoretical instruction tailored to meet both CAF licensing requirements and the evolving demands of the game.

Each day began with practical on-field sessions focusing on tactical structures, ball progression, team organisation, and physical conditioning. Afternoons transitioned into classroom-based modules covering modern coaching methodologies, match analysis, player management, and football periodisation. This integrated approach was designed not only to align with continental standards but also to empower coaches to implement global best practices within Zimbabwe’s local football ecosystem.

All participants successfully renewed their CAF C Licences for an additional three years, ensuring their continued eligibility to serve on technical benches. More significantly, the course opened the pathway for progression to the CAF B level, further strengthening Zimbabwe’s coaching pipeline.

Beyond licensing, the refresher course allowed ZIFA to assess the current technical level of local coaches, identify areas for development, and recognise emerging talent suitable for further mentorship and advanced certification.

Running alongside the refresher was the CAF Coach Educator Mentorship Programme — a vital initiative aimed at developing Zimbabwe’s own pool of certified coach educators. Four (4) candidates Sithethelelwe “Kwinji 15” Sibanda, Tafadzwa Mashiri, Wilson Mutekede, and Joseph Sibindi were evaluated during the fourth phase of their mentorship. They will now progress to the final stage and, upon successful completion, will join the elite ranks of CAF-accredited instructors qualified to train and certify coaches within Zimbabwe.

The course reaffirmed ZIFA’s unwavering commitment to professionalising football in Zimbabwe through knowledge, discipline, and continuous education. Educated coaches form the cornerstone of football development — bringing tactical expertise, mentorship, and scientific insight to player performance and team management.
