ZIFA narrows down search for national team coaches

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) on Tuesday said it has made significant progress in its search for new head coaches for both the senior men’s and women’s national teams.

In a statement, ZIFA said after an extensive and meticulous selection process, a shortlist of five highly qualified candidates for the role of Zimbabwe men’s national team head coach has been made.

These applicants include Gerard Nus, Michael Nees, Marcio Maximo Barcellos, Antoine Hey, and Winfried Schäfer, who are all foreign.

ZIFA said the preliminary interviews for the men’s national team position were conducted this Monday, with the second round of interviews expected to take place over the next few days.

“This thorough evaluation process will ensure that ZIFA selects the most qualified and capable individual to lead the Zimbabwean Warriors (the senior men’s national team) to new heights on the international stage.

“In parallel, ZIFA is also working diligently to compile a shortlist of candidates for the Mighty Warriors (the senior women’s national team) Head Coach position. The interview process for this role is set to be completed by Monday, July 29th,” said ZIFA.

The selection of the new national team coaches is a crucial step in ZIFA’s efforts to revitalize and strengthen the performance of Zimbabwe’s national football teams.

The successful candidates will be tasked with not only leading their respective teams to victory but also fostering the growth and development of the country’s football talent.
