RENOWNED Bulawayo lawyer and football administrator Tavengwa Hara believes Zifa should make a thorough introspection if it is to attract corporate interest. Hara, who is seeking to be a board member of the association at elections set for tomorrow, said unless an honest assessment of what is wrong is done, sponsors will continue shunning the biggest football organisation in the country, presently sitting on a $5 million debt.

“If I get into office, I will make sure that we clean ourselves up, see what is making us unattractive to the corporate world and that way only can we stand a potential of being attractive,” said Hara, former Premier Soccer League board member, competitions.

The Premiership, Hara said, cleaned itself up and sponsors started pouring in while those that were there renewed their relationships with the elite league.
“I led the league as board member competitions for three solid years. It was an incident-free term with sponsors coming in because of the way we were running their competitions. I now want to take my experience and expertise to a higher office,” said the respected lawyer.

Hara also noted that Zifa found itself, on many occasions, at loggerheads with people or institutions simply because they failed to interpret the constitution, which is where he will also come in handy for the association.

Such a situation, said Hara, will enable Zifa to avoid unnecessary and costly legal battles.
On which Zifa presidential candidate he would want to work with, Hara said: “Look, I am going to Zifa as a football person and to push football issues, not someone else’s agenda. I will happily work with any of the four candidates who will win the presidency as well as the other posts.

“To be aligned to a candidate is deadly because how will you work if he loses? Even if he wins, it means there will not be any constructive engagements during council meetings.  Anything which he says will go you will be embedded in him. I don’t want that. Let football be the winner and the whole nation will rejoice.”

Some delegates have been openly on whirlwind campaign trails for certain presidential candidates, in the process compromising their own integrity as some of them have allegedly not said anything meaningful during council meetings.
