THE Pacific Breeze Zifa Southern Region League is headed for a smooth run-in with final matches pitting promotion and relegation candidates set to be played at the same time.
“We want fair play, we are for fair play as a region. We want to promote a culture where both promotion and demotion are guided by meritocracy,” said Ngqwele Dube, the league’s spokesperson.
He said the race has so far run smoothly in a manner that has left management impressed and wishes to see the same discipline maintained.
“All has run well. Management wishes the same spirit can be maintained up to Game 32 and the best team qualifying for Premiership while those that sink would not have suffered any deliberate prejudice but to have sunk having put everything to it,” said Dube.
“Usually with four games to go we have had that situation where teams at the bottom play at the same kick off time as does the top two or three or even four if all have a significant interest in the outcome of the race. We looking forward to that this weekend,” he continued.
Hwange continued calling the shots with another routine win, this time at the hands of Zimbabwe Saints.
The coalminers, Matabeleland North’s most successful football club with three Castle Cup wins lead the race with 63 points. This is three more than second placed Talen Vision who a fortnight ago took over the lead before relinquishing it to the miners.
Talen Vision lost 5-3 to Bulawayo Warriors and followed that up with another 2-1 edging by Khami United.
At 60 points, six ahead of third and fourth placed Nkayi United and Jordan who have 54, Talen
Vision appear poised to take Hwange to the rope.
Hwange emerged 2-0 winners of Chikwata with Justin Kaunda and Quinton Longwe keeping the ambers red hot with higher hopes of landing the Premiership franchise.
Talen Vision did not disappoint too winning 4-2 against Victoria Falls Herentals.
In the battle for third place, a thriller played on Sunday at White City Stadium, Nkayi United recovered third place with a hard fought 2-1 win. It was a competitive match played with a tempo that was key to deciding the destiny of the three points and position three.
There were some good build-ups by both teams and some solid defending which was supported by midfield duels and some crunch tackles.
