Zifa Southern Region weekend matches postponed

ZIFA Southern Region have postponed this weekend’s fixtures to accommodate their regional council half year meeting being held in Hwange.

The only fixture on the cards is tomorrow’s clash between ZPC Hwange and third placed Casmyn FC in Hwange. The game was rescheduled about two weeks ago after a minibus carrying the Casmyn team was involved in an accident close to St Luke’s along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road.

The full league fixtures will resume on August 29.

Zifa Southern Region chairman Musa Mandaza said: “We have suspended the league this weekend to make way for our midyear meeting in Hwange to resolve a few major issues that we have been struggling with as an institution. However, all things will be back to normal at the end of the month,” said Mandaza.

League leaders Bulawayo City go into the unscheduled break with a five-point lead over second placed Bulawayo Chiefs. Chiefs remained within sight of their city rivals by dismissing Amagagasi FC 2-1 at Fairbridge grounds last Sunday.

Former Premiership outfit Bantu Rovers lost ground on the leading pack and dropped to fourth place after losing 0-1 to City in a local derby.

Casmyn moved into third place after beating Trumus Warriors 1-0.

Casmyn have a chance of cementing their position on the table if they can beat ZPC Hwange. The powermen were involved in a 1-1 stalemate against inconsistent army side Indlovu Iyanyathela.
