ZIFA to announce new Warriors coach

ZIFA is expected to end speculation over the national team coaching job when they announce a new gaffer this afternoon following interviews that are said to have started this morning.

Brazilian Marcio Maximo could become the first Latin American to coach in this country should he impress during interviews. He has previously coached the Tanzania national team and is familiar with African football.

Igor RemenecWinfried Schaefer who has worked in Cameroon with commendable success is among the coaches shortlisted for interviews according to sources in the capital.

Bosnia-Herzegovina Igor Remenec is also expected to be interviewed alongside Antonie Hey, Gerrard Nus and Michael Neis.

Zifa technical director Jethro Hunidzarira confirmed in Harare yesterday that the national team coaching job would be finalised today with the interviewing of some candidates.

Zimbabwe has been in the hunt for a national team coach for a while and has worked on an adhoc basis using Brito Baltemar, Norman Mapeza and Jairos Tapera in the last two years.

Hopes are high that the national coach will hit the ground running and try to rescue Zimbabwe’s World Cup qualifying campaign which has the team with two points out of a possible 12.
