participate at the MuscleMania Africa contest in Kampala next week.
Newly-crowned Mr Iron Man, Vincent Kandiyero, former winner Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga, 2010 Mr Novice Champion, Eddie Marondera, and Ms Iron Man, Christine Matange are expecting to take part in the event at the Theatre La Bonita in Uganda.
The Muslemania bodybuilding competition brings together top athletes from East and Central Africa with the winners going for the world finals later in the year.
The athletes were selected after their good performances at the Iron Man contest last month.
Mashonaland Bodybuilding and Fitness Association president Tofara Moyo yesterday they were expecting to get the greenlight before the end of the week.
“We are awaiting for a clearance letter from the SRC to travel to Uganda as per the rules.
“At first, we told the Sports Commission of the invites from Uganda but they said the letter from Kampala did not bear an official letterhead and logo.
“So we advised the Musclemania contest organisers to send us a proper invitation and they have done so,” said Moyo.
If approved by the Sports Commission, Moyo said the four athletes and two officials would leave on September 8. “While we are waiting for the greenlight, we are also running around to arrange the travel plans.
“So far we are expecting to leave on September 8, on an Kenyan Airways flight,” said Moyo.
Moyo said they were also preparing for Plan B.
“The plan B is to leave by road on September 5 so that we complete about two days of travelling.
“This will allow the athletes to arrive around the 8th and have a rest before the contest but travelling by road is just the second option,” said Moyo.
Meanwhile, Moyo said Kandiyero has since been given ownership of the Toyota Fun-cargo he won at the Mr Iron Man contest. Matange has also been given the title deeds for stand in Tynwald she won at the same contest.
